The drum pattern is actually thrown together really nice, but this feels like just a bass drop. The thing lacks any intro or melody, and as cool as those bass sounds were that's all you used (and that high-pitched pluck). It didn't seem to mix very well either, almost as if 4 different drops were thrown into one. If you were to structure this a little bit better, there could be intro, build-up, then 1:04 - 1:24 as the first half of the drop and then 0:27 - 0:50 as the second half of the drop and this would've been perfect. Even if this wouldn't fit with a melody very well, you could always try Neurofunk, which isn't very melody heavy.

Keep working at it, you're mixing and sounds are great, but composition is key.

Xentillum responds:

Thank you for your very detailed review! I'll try to make remake of this mix in the future! :)

It wasn't bad as far as production or the sounds themselves. Really this is quite better than a lot of songs here. However, I feel like it's missing that "bang" dubstep has. It's a little soft core with the mixing. The wubs on the drop should definitely be slightly louder, and maybe you could add a slight bit of distortion. Other than that, this wasn't bad.

DragonclawGD responds:

Thanks, I will keep that in mind for my next songs :)

This was really melodic, great job. I liked the vocal cuts and the drums were amazing. The mixing may have been a bit quiet until 1:00 and the end, but other than that I find this to be a really great track (especially since I'm one that doesn't like trap all that much).

midimachine responds:

oh, i think i might have left the master limiter off haha - would explain why the kick and snareclap are so much louder than everything else :v

e: fixed it now i think

As cool as that wobble was, would it have killed you to add more than just that during the drop? I do like the song, although dubstep/trap is usually kick and a snare. I only heard hi-hats and snare rolls (technically doesn't count as a "snare" because you wouldn't use them during a bass drop).

K-oztron responds:

Thanks for the feedback! Will take it into account next time.

That drop was just purely amazing. The melody sounds morbidly familiar, but it's still pretty good..

This sounds like something I would've made 9 months ago, memories.
Few things, while I know this song is a couple months old, but there's quite a few things you're missing with dubstep. First, dubstep is normally a kick and snare. I only heard a kick and clap. Second, the song lacked any variation. Maybe using the same melody would pass if this was trance, but not for a genre that needs variety. Third, I don't know what that drum pattern was at 0:44, but it seemed pretty random for any kind of song. At least you tried giving it energy. Fourth, try to not use the default drums. I can hook you up with some free drum samples for variation. Overall it's missing a drop. Even a basic wobble would've been nice.
Finally, I can tell you're trying to improve, but there's a lot you need to improve on. I have a faith in you, don't give up.

DJ-AleksaTheGreat responds:

Thanks for the tips! :) I will try and improve myself around dubstep.
btw, pls PM those drum samples, thanks.

I thought this was pretty relaxing. The vocals were great, and I loved the drum patterns. I think the most soothing though, was the piano. Really great melody.

Also, are the kontakt instruments free? The FL studio piano sucks.

5TanLey responds:

thx for rev, the kontakt stuff isn't free, unless you know where to look on the internet :P

I'm really envious. I'm struggling with dubstep and there's people who master it first attempt.
;_;
Anyways, I really liked this song. The mixing was great, and I did like the chords pretty well. One problem, the kick during the first 50 seconds was WAY too loud. It should be leveled with the noise of the snare. Other than that, I wish you good luck with your future of music.

AzeXiR responds:

Thanks a lot! Did'nt expected such a positive review. The problem with the kick is probably too much reverb. Also on my program to make music all snares sucks xD. The drop was simple. I just layered some dubstep sounds with few short melodies and it was done. Thanks for your review again! (Excuse my bad english)

Ok, so I am leaving this review to try and help you make better music. I don't want to sound hypocritical because my dubstep is straight vomit, but I wanted to offer some tips.
First off I notice you tagged the song 130 BPM, which is not accurate to typical dubstep tempos (Dubstep is typically 140 BPM or 110 BPM, mid-tempo is 70 BPM, and Drumstep is around 170 BPM), that isn't an entirely big issue but it could be fixed in future work.
Second, you don't really have a drum pattern. The drums are just.. out there. They'll start and stop at random times and it's mostly kick drums. In dubstep, typically there is a kick and snare (this is not restricted to a kick and snare, but it is common) synchronized into a two step beat. A 2 step beat is, for example, a kick and snare played every 8th step (in some cases it's every 3rd step). You will hear this pattern in just about every dubstep song. There may be a variation, but the 2 step beat will remain the same.
Third, there isn't really a build-up, the drop just kinda.. hits. I will say the wobbles were well placed I will say. It was a bit too high pitched for my liking, but that doesn't affect the score of this review.
Overall the song is promising and I hope to see improvements later. Keep working at it!

phobosfromss responds:

Thanks! I will improve my music.

Finally listened to this and wow this is great. I loved the drums and how they were laid out. In fact I was listening to them more than the melody lol. In all seriousness the mixing was pretty good, with this being the third track of yours I've heard it's the best one yet. The drop part was also nice. Although I love hardcore dubstep this is a simple form of a drop which is way better than I could do. The only problem is the riser was quite quick, other than that it's a well put together track.

BlastBeats responds:

Gotta live up to my name with those drums :P. The drop is quite simple indeed. I didn't want to go too far in experimenting. I tend to ruin my tracks that way. However, I think I could do better next time. Thanks for the compliment, and I'm glad you liked it!

Some dubstephile who tries his hand at making his own. I also help out reporting stolen stuff to the Audio Portal Cleanup thread. Hablo espaƱol. Pero, no soy perfecto.
