Collab with AzeXiR + Making Drops Sucks

Posted by BlueAlpha14 - December 3rd, 2016

Today is Saturday which means yaaaaay it's time for another post because nobody is gonna see my posts at 7:00 at night.

So, me and an artist named AzeXiR decided to collaborate on a track. Most likely dubstep, typically 140 BPM. What will make this collab really interesting is that we have different DAW's. But since we both have audio editors, we'll make it work. We're going to call the track Voltage, because I like that word :333333.

Also, I've made little progress on my drumstep track. It's either going to be called .:Lunar Pulse:. or .:Lunar Energy:. because just .:Lunar:. sounds really cliche. The thing is, same with literally every dubstep/drumstep/glitch hop track I've attempted, it's the drops that are hard to make.

When I styled .:This is the End:. I just layered that growl over the strings. Some thought that was a horrible idea, which begs the question if you guys are going to like the Raining Lake remix or that calmer style in general. The problem is not that I don't know how to place wobbles and growls. I can easily throw a bunch of growls together and call that a drop. Usually, there's some form of melody in a dubstep drop. It's why I've never understood the difference between dubstep and melodic dubstep. I would call a track like this melodic dubstep, while some may argue it's just normal dubstep. Technically, everything is melodic.

Enough of that pointless rant, making the drop for this drumstep track will be difficult. I really like everything before the drop as well. I think I'll just draft a few and post them on to a thread to see which one people like. I'm honestly hoping to god the mods don't remove the thread and redirect me to the review for review thread over a few 10 second previews-

aND because I get so carried away, I forgot what I was even trying to explain. Usually, in a drop, there's some form of melody. Even if it's chords playing every half a measure, the track will sound super empty without some notes playing. As I said previously, if I can push through it once I can push through it every time. I need to stop this giving up because I'm not going through another 3 months of just releasing 16 bar loops because I can't advance beyond that point.

Also, if you haven't listened to the preview of the track, here it is again just in case.

id suggest that u start with a drop in generel. before any melodies and chords and intros focus on the growls and the drop layout. sounddesign before u even start the layout. just make some growls and save them. then put them together. find a pattern u like or go with the generic "one oct fall deep growl" then rythmic "wob" pattern. when u feel it start adding drums and cymbals. make it wide af and loud. id even suggest to already make the mix as clean and as loud as possible with... lets say maximus. then after that u can add chords. start to bring in atmosphere and decide which direction it should go. make the chords heavy af. and layer like a deep distorted saw beneath it too. then when the drop is like nearly done do some minor tweaks to it. add maybe an arp. maybe variat with ur drums and wubs a little bit. and then u can start to make the intro and other stuff. i think its way easier when u start with the drop. this way u wont have the problem "i made an epic af intro but cant make an drop to it". just sayn. if u need more help pm me. kek

Already made the intro tho :P I tried the drop-first thing but it was extremely difficult. I'll just have to play around.

Yaaay.
I like the word too :333333.
When i do drumstep i mostly just put growls everywhere and they are switching very very fast along a dnb beat.
About the collab what about complextro/electro house? I think it'll fit the name too.

It's odd that some words are fascinating. Really odd.
I finally found a drop that works. I'll post a preview tomorrow, only if I have everything else done on my agenda.
You seem to be interested in that genre lol. It's going to be new because I haven't tried it, but we could go with that.

I think it will be an interesting collab :)
Once you have the intro finished sent it to me and we can compare them.

Will do.

Also i started creating dubstep song yesterday.

I have a few ideas for new tracks. I actually want to remix Fire Away by Skrillex. There's a tutorial on the melody, which is good because I don't have the talent of transcribing notes.

Mine is inspired by au5 mostly but recently, i think mendum is overtaking him on my fav authors list.
One part was inspired by mendum-preludium. That song is extremely underrated. Listen to it, it's SOO FREAKING EPIC.

Is it melodic? I'm not a fan of melodic lol

I think you'll may like momentum from them. And i'm saying them because it's a duo.

Duo like an artist duo?

Also i had some epic ideas with remixing Mendum-elysium and krys talk-fly away. But they'll probably not come out. Also i had learned how to create my own bell sounds.

I'll have to sample Fire Away. Just the vocals, and then I want to make a super hard drop.

By the way, I'm releasing a preview of the drumstep drop soon. I hope it's not too bad.

Idk some are cool. preludium is orchestral dubstep but it has some melodic elements.
BUT THERE ARE ALSO EEEEPIC GROWLS.

But I dun like orchestral :< I'm way too much of a "brostep" fan

Ok Bro.
I don't listen to Brostep very much.
But i luv melodic.
